Facebook launches app called Lasso like TikTok

Facebook has quietly launched an app called Lasso, it allows user to create short music videos, similar to the highly popular Chinese app TikTok.

Lasso’s features are similar to those of TikTok, another short-video platform. Bytedance Technology, a Chinese company that bought popular teen app Musical.ly in 2017, migrated Musical.ly’s accounts to TikTok earlier this year.

“Lasso is a new standalone app for short-form, entertaining videos — from comedy to beauty to fitness and more,” a Facebook spokesperson told one of popular magazine in a statement by email. “We’re excited about the potential here, and we’ll be gathering feedback from people and creators.”

Product Manager of Lasso App @ Facebook tweeted as

The app aims to be all the things that Facebook isn’t (namely, fun), and comes just a few weeks after word of it oozed out of Menlo Park.

“Once you’ve found a type of video that’s trending, whether it’s #comedy or #fail, you can use the in-app camera to put your own spin on it with special effects, music and editing tools. Add hashtags to your video to share it with the world!”

The app also features a feed for “Today’s Top Creators.”

Lasso is available on iOS and Android, and users can log in using Facebook or Instagram. They can share their videos from Lasso to their Facebook Stories, with the ability to share to Instagram Stories coming soon. All profiles and videos on Lasso are public.

The app is currently available in the U.S. on iOS and Android.

TikTok lovers can start Lasso soon once the app hits in your Play Store or App Store wait and see
